Olivia currently teaches in the Department of Nursing. She is an academic representative of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), a national accrediting agency. She has taught in graduate and undergraduate programs in private and public universities. She holds two national certifications through the American Nurses Association Credentialing Center (ANCC), and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Commission on Nurse Certification (CNC). She served as the Associate Chief for Nursing Service Education and Research at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Loma Linda. She held staff and supervisory registered nurse positions across the continuum of adult care in ambulatory, acute, intensive care, and long term care settings. She has served non-profit organizations and rural clinics abroad whose missions are to promote the health and well-being of refugee and immigrant families. Olivia is a veteran of the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps.

Research Interests

Olivia's primary research interests are in the areas of refugee and migrant health, and healthcare issues of persons in resettlement. Secondary interests are in the areas of curricular development and accreditation in a rural area of southwestern Uganda.
