Prepare to become a professional communicator and a discerning media consumer as you hone your skills as a critical thinker, astute researcher, confident speaker, accomplished writer, and creative storyteller.

Academic Program

The Communication and Media Studies (CMS) major develops ethically responsible students and skillful communicators. Through the program, you’ll learn to navigate an increasingly media-saturated, diverse, and complex global environment.

Using strategic and applied communication, CMS cultivates a collaborative, hands-on learning environment. As a student in the program, you will create a dynamic multimedia portfolio that includes videos, podcasts, live radio shows, and news and media content for campus organizations and the larger community.

Minor

CMS also offers a Communication and Media Studies minor, a 16-unit degree plan that includes an introductory communication and media course, as well as several upper-division electives in communication and applied media production.
