Internships

The Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ Internship Program helps integrate your academic learning and personal and professional development through hands-on, practical work experience.

What is an Internship?

An internship integrates your academic and career interests with hands-on work experience. It is an academic credit program where you can enhance and apply classroom learning in a work setting related to your major.

Through the Program, you will work closely with your faculty advisor to research and secure internship opportunities, including business, non-profit, education, medical, and public organizations.

What Are The Benefits of Interning?

  • Explore what you really like or dislike about a field/industry
  • Test-out your career choice
  • Enhance your resume
  • Generate a network of professional contacts to utilize as references
  • Become more competitive in the job market by gaining marketable job skills which are transferable to other jobs
  • Obtain academic credit
  • Possibly earn extra income (some internships are paid)
  • Earn 1-3 units of academic credit

When Should I do an Internship?

You will benefit most from an internship after first gaining knowledge within your field of study. Internships can be done during the fall, spring, or summer semesters. You should discuss your internship potential with your faculty advisor. Allow at least one semester to secure an internship.

How Many Hours do I Work?

  • 1 unit =  45 hours
  • 2 units = 90 hours
  • 3 units = 135 hours

Please note — You must be registered for internship credit before beginning your internship hours.
